I agree that I always read both sides of a negative feedback before I allow it to affect my decision on whether or not to bid. And now I just have to share this negative feedback story:
Over the summer I watched the most beautiful white body Kirsten sell for just $76. It broke my heart not to bid on her, but I just couldn't spend the money at the time (I have never seen another Kirsten who "speaks" to me like this one did). Well, about a month later I still had the auction saved, and I thought it would be fun to see what kind of feedback the buyer had left (I was expecting there to be raves about how beautiful this Kirsten was). To my surprise and sadness, the buyer had left a negative and said the doll was marked Pleasant Company and was therefore not an American Girl. My heart was broken again for this Kirsten who had gone to someone who could not appreciate her. Well, the seller left a nice but firm response back. Obviously, anyone who knew anything about AG could have seen that this negative was not deserved.
Best wishes and good luck!
Shawn

OK...I just have to reply...I have been buying mostly and selling some over the last 6 years...I thankfully have not given or received one...a negative...but I never have a problem bidding on an item for someone that has one, maybe 2...like the earlier poster stated...when there is a pattern I stay away...you have the opportunity to set the record straight...easier said then done..."don't worry about it "

I'm really sorry this happened to you Jenny, but i agree that it's more important to leave accurate feedback for him to warn other ebayers. I've only had negatives from 2 people. One had me confused with another seller with a similar id that she had bought the same number of items from, and the other was a psycho. At the time I left her a negative for nonpayment, her feedback number was 21 with 7 negs. I knew I was going to get slammed by her because it was what she had done to every other seller that left her neg., but I thought for sure mine would be the one that would push ebay into kicking her out. It didn't work and the last I checked, she was still a member. No one after me had the guts to leave her neg., but you could see by her replies to her feedback that she hadn't changed-she was saying thank you for adjusting their shipping rates, ect.
Ebay can be great, but unfortunately there are some jerks out there. Be sure to respond to his feedback, and I'm sure people will be able to tell who to believe.

Good for you for being brave enough to leave him a negative, even knowing you will probably get one in return. Sometimes it seems like the bad guys know how to manipulate the system into forcing us good guys to lay low and not tell what they've done. I agree with the others that people will look at your whole feedback picture, not just one negative. (hugs)

When I see someone has a negative feedback I always look at what that person left them and then what was left for the other person.
I read what you wrote to that guy and it was nicer than I would have been. It was to the point and very true. For the first few months people will even be able to look at the item that the dispute was over and they will see that HE was in the wrong.
It was listed as SAMANTHA's Stereoscope... and was put in Dolls and Bears... I mean comne on people.

Thanks everyone...I'm really fine with it now. I appreciate all of the support!
I wrapped the stereoscope for my sister. I have it in a box of other gifts to send to her house for Christmas! She got Samantha last Feb., when we went to AGPC. She's going to love the stereoscope. I couldn't face listing it again....

I think that I've gotten one negative feedback in all my years of ebay-ing. That one was very traumatic. It was from a very rude, borderline crazy guy at a tool company, and he gave it to me because of a "neutral" I gave to him. I gave him the "neutral", even though I really wanted to give him a "negative", because he was very rude to me when I asked him a simple question.
At the end of the sale, I had simply asked him whether he accepted cashier's checks or money orders. I had read his instructions over and over and over, and all he had on there was what his policy was on credit cards and personal checks. He had some kind of snide reply to the effect that I should just read it. And in our emails he got worse and worse. When I gave him the "neutral", he literally blew a gasket. I tried and tried to talk him down and work it out, but he was completely off the deep end, so it was impossible. Turns out he apparently had me confused with another lady who had repeatedly called him on the telephone (I hadn't called him once), but he never would believe that I wasn't that lady. Here's our feedbacks......
These are the ones from me to him (on his feedback)--
"Neutral" djsnjones: Shipg&packaging grt, item grt cond.Initial response fast, later scant&sarcastic
Reply by ____: I am not sure what this is about or means. Please check all our feedback.
Follow-up by djsnjones: I gave neutral, B grade for sarcastic & disrespectful ans to one of my questions
These are from him to me (on my feedback)--
"Negative" from him:They will zing you in feedback for no reason. What's up with you? I am at a loss
Reply by djsnjones: I only left Neutral feedback&B gradefor his sarcastic ans to one of my questions ?
Follow-up by _____: In all the Emails and phone call made by buyer I only stated payment options.

Let us know how it turns out.
I applaud you for using the feedback as it is meant to be used instead of fearing that negative retaliation which you will probably get as you fear. But who knows, maybe he will be fair????
I also agree that when I am looking to buy, I do look at the seller's explanation to their negative feedback. Most people who use ebay know that you get zinged for telling the truth, so it should be cool.

Don't even worry about it I know a guy, who knows a guy....lol. Anyway, I always look at the responses to negative feedback, so just make sure you respond to it! One way or the other, you know all of us here at hostboard will always buy from you BTW, I looked at your items for sale, and that beading is just gorgeous

Thanks Mayergirl...those pictures are pretty bad. I'm not good a photographing jewelry.
We've been selling in local stores, and it's fun. I got bored yesterday, and decided to list a few things.
